We invest certain objects with meaning. Sometimes the associations are obvious - wearing a lover’s for example. Doing this consciously is a creative meditation technique for bringing peace of mind with you whenever you are on the move.
A smooth stone can be a good personal ‘talisman’. Choose a stone that you have found and one that’s small enough to carry around in your pocket. If you are using an altar with your daily, meditation, leave it there for a week or two. Notice it every time you sit down to meditate. Make it part of your meditation ritual, maybe by touching it at the beginning and end of a session. You are building the calm that it brings.
You will know when you are ready to take the stone with you. Carry it in your pocket, bag or briefcase - and whenever you’re feeling stressed or crowded - on a packed train, for example, hold the stone in your hand. This kind of shortcut works especially well for people who never seem to have a moment to themselves. Even a fleeting moment of calm can de-stress a situation. It works on a subconscious level. The ’sense impression’ of the stone recalls the experience of meditation for you.
Using Your Meditation Stone
Try meditation with your chosen stone, preferably a beautifully colored smooth pebble, in your cupped hands. Visualize cool, calm earth energy spreading from the stone up your hands and then throughout your body. This should have the effect of making you feel centered and calm.
