Using Your Eyes To Help You Meditate
There are three main ways of using visual aids to help you meditate:
- Staring at on object, then closing your eyes and recreating the image in your mind’s eye.
- Gazing at on object without paying attention to it. Whenever you start to have thoughts about it, push them gently away. Try this with an abstract image, such as a yantra (on abstract Hindu mandala) or a Rothko print. Allow yourself to simply ‘be with’ the image.
- Journeying through an image. You can do this with a traditional mandala by starting at one of the gates or you can do this with all manner of other images, for example Tarot cards.
